Campfires and Constellations Releases New Album “Carolina Homegrown”

Last Thursday night, local UNC student band Campfires and Constellations officially released their debut full-length album, Carolina Homegrown.  The release was accompanies by a performance at the Local 506 with other UNC student band, Ellis Dyson and The Shambles, taking the opening slot.  The album was independently recorded and mixed by UNC Vinyl Records president Carter Fourqurean.  With 11 tracks clocking in at about 35 minutes, Carolina Homegrown is the band’s most extensive release to date, and it can be streamed for free on Bandcamp.

Senior Night at the Ackland Tuesday Night

This Tuesday night, beginning at 6 PM, the Ackland Art Museum will be hosting “Senior Night at the Ackland,” where there will be free drinks, music and food trucks.  Student-run UNC radio station, WXYC, will be providing free music.  There is no dress code, and a valid photo ID is required for admission.

Beat Making Lab

  • Began as a beat-making class at UNC (listen to student samples here)
  • Expanded into an international cultural initiative
  • Setting up musical residencies in community centers in the Congo, Ethiopia, and more
  • Bring the music, equipment, and instructors to the locations and teach high-need communities and youth
  • The goal is to create a sustainable studio in these areas
  • One of the first results of the Carolina Beat Academy

Carolina Beat Academy Hosting Penultimate Party on Franklin Street

All proceeds will benefit the Carolina Beat Academy

The Carolina Beat Academy is hosting a benefit concert on Thursday April 24th in The Great Room at Top of the Hill.  Tickets are $5 for students and $10 for non-students.  All proceeds will go directly to benefiting Mark Katz’s Carolina Beat Academy.  DJ A-Minor, a regular DJ participating the Katz’s Monday 2-5 PM class “The Art and Culture of the DJ,” will be DJing the evening alongside numerous locals and a surprise headliner.  Attendees are asked to “dress to impress.”
